Two Cups of Tea
This morning has been a two cup of tea morning. And I know what you’re thinking – an American who drinks tea? Yep, I do. Don’t get me wrong I love a good cup of coffee – but just the ritual of making tea in the morning is a wonderful thing. Unwrapping the tea bag, putting it in the mug, boiling water in the kettle, steeping the tea bag … you get the idea.
What’s funny is that I’ve never had an actual “British” cup of tea. Who knows what the British would think of what I’m making in the morning, with my little Bigleow Earl Grey tea bags. The kicker is I’ve been to England. I traveled there when I was 8. Now, I wasn’t a big tea drinker at 8, but my parents were & I’m sure I could have had some. What’s also funny, is that we did a house exchange when we traveled there. We exchanged houses, cars … etc & of course coffee mugs (however, we were not quite certain British people would actually have “regular” coffee mugs). So, the week before we left for merry ‘ole England we searched high and low for a “proper British tea cup” for our kitchen. The closest we found was a tiny coffee mug (which my mom still has). When we finally arrived there, in our British families’ kitchen were the biggest coffee mugs we had ever seen! We laughed so hard what stupid Americans we were!
Anyway, as I sit here with my second cup of tea and stare at the gray morning I’m happy that I drink tea & have a big mug with which to drink it.
