My cat Courtney is my alarm clock in the morning. If I’m not up by at least 8:00 she’ll definitely make me painfully aware. I found this little video on YouTube and thought it was spot on:

Courtney does all of the above, and then some. You see, she’s a “passive aggressive” cat. Sometimes she’ll sit kind of close to one of her siblings just to annoy them, but far enough away to make it seem like she’s just sitting there randomly. Or she will sleep in Raz’s bed just to piss him off and we all know she likes sleeping on the cat condo much better. You get my drift. So, aside from pawing at my face and walking on top of me, she will get on my bed-side table and proceed to try to knock stuff off. Yes, very passive aggressive. The sound of her trying to do this, makes me move and push whatever object back on my bed-side table. This gets her excited; jumping on me and trying to bite my fingers. I don’t know why she thinks that biting my finger will make me get up and feed her. Apparently, Courtney has never heard … “don’t bite the hand that feeds you”.

Actually they didn’t walk into a bar, they were carried in. Also, it really wasn’t a bar but my house. And, who did this carrying you might ask? My cats.

Ah, the trifecta of cat prey. My cats Courtney and Raz are excellent hunters. Sammy with his gimpy hips and diminished brain capacity … not so much. First it was Raz this morning with a lizard. Fun. I had to get the dustpan out to save the little guy and place him back in the garden. Next came Courtney mid-morning with a bird. I hate it when they bring in birds – to me that is the saddest of all the little creators they give us as “presents”. I had to chase Courtney outside with the bird; who knows what happened to the poor little thing. Now, just a few minutes ago I was presented by a mouse. This time also by Courtney. Ug. Dustpan time again.

Now, I love my cats but I wish they would stop doing this!

Hee hee. Right now, Courtney is trying to open the drawers behind me in the linen closet. Now Raz has joined her and the’ve teamed up to get the drawers open. Hey guys! It’s just towels. Ah to be a cat.

My poor cat Sam has a gimpy hips. A few months ago he shattered his left hip, either he was hit by a car (that’s what the vet believed), or something might be genetically wrong with his hips considering he didn’t look like he was hit by a car (our hypothesis). Thus we paid $1,500 for his surgery and from what we could tell he was much better. A bit limpy but still our Sam.

Fast forward to yesterday at our new vet. We took him in for a check-up because he’s been out in the “wild” that is Los Osos for about a month. The vet examined his right hip and was confused. She couldn’t understand why his right hip had now become atrophied, so x-rays were involved. Ug. Apparently his right hip socket was folded over on itself and basically just plain funky. More surgery for Sam & more money out of our wallets. Ironically, when Sammy was missing we decided to continue our pet insurance for Raz and also sign up Courtney, we didn’t think Sam would return. However, I’m sure the insurance wouldn’t cover the surgery. Oh well. Poor gimpy Sam. It’s such a mystery as to what’s up with Sammy’s hips! He’s not in pain at the moment & that’s a good thing. I just feel bad for my sweet Sammy.

“Bring out your dead!” Okay, I really don’t have the plague but I thought I did last night. You see, my cat Courtney brought in a baby rat around 8:00 and it wasn’t dead. Ug. So, I had the task of trying to catch this cute little thing before it got stuck somewhere. I finally managed to corner it in the bedroom (with Courtney’s help), however when I picked it up to put it in a basin to bring it outside – it bit me! Ahh! I was able to put it outside away from the cats; they seemed to loose interest rather quickly. I immediately washed my hands and examined my poor little pinky finger. It was red, but thankfully I didn’t see a puncture wound. Whew. But still, I was freaked out. I went to my computer and actually googed ‘rat bite’. Thankfully, rats in the US don’t have the plague.

Last night my cat Courtney freaked out. Hubby and I were in bed watching TV when Courtney came into our room all puffy and growling. Usually this means another cat has entered the yard. So I got up and went to investigate. We live in an area known for having opossums so I thought it might be a scary opossum, but no, it was a raccoon!

The raccoon had been eating the kibble cat food we have near the sliding glass door (which we leave open for our cats – Raz & Courtney). The raccoon was so cute and not scared of me at all, which kind of upset Courtney more. I just stood there in the kitchen with a flash light on the backyard and watched the cute little guy (actually he wasn’t that little maybe twice the size of Courtney). At one point he laid on his back with his little raccoon feet in the air and scratched is tummy. I should have taken some pictures.

But then I realized I have to shoo off this cute wildlife. “Shoo!” I said from the crack in the sliding glass door. It didn’t seem to want to leave. So, I just moved the kibble inside the kitchen out of site & went back to bed.

Courtney didn’t growl again so I guess the raccoon left. Because I didn’t take a picture of the raccoon, here’s a cute picture of Courtney instead:
